Not everyone who lives in Montgomery County is swimming in piles of gold doubloons. In fact, 31 percent of public school students qualify for free or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty.
Help these students start the school year off right by donating new school supplies and backpacks at businesses around the county.
Five Whole Foods locations, as well as the Westfield Montgomery Mall and the Westfield Wheaton Mall, will be accepting donations through Aug. 20 on select dates.
Those who drop off a new backpack will receive a free meal at Westfield Montgomery’s Chick-Fil-A on Aug. 11 and 12; a free scissor, pencil box, or other supply gets you a free entree. The mall also will give out coupons to California Pizza Kitchen and free movie tickets.
Miss the Aug. 20 deadline? The school system’s Rockville headquarters will accept supplies and backpacks through Aug. 25.
Kids will be showered with these vital goodies at the fourth-annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 27.
For more information, call the schools’ Department of Family and Community Partnerships at 301-279-3100 or email [email protected].
Happy donating!
