The driver of an SUV involved in a deadly shooting by an off-duty Alexandria police officer outside a local restaurant was given community service and had his license suspended Monday.

Stephen J. Smith, 19, of Alexandria, was convicted of possession of marijuana and an additional alcohol-related charge stemming from the Feb. 25 incident.
