New York Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, one of the most liberal members of Congress, on Thursday claimed to be a “Planned Parenthood baby” while praising the organization for saving lives.
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks came during a meeting of the House Oversight and Reform Committee that was intended to examine “America’s black maternal health crisis.”
“If we want to talk about Planned Parenthood, let’s talk about how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved and how many babies have been because of the prenatal care provided by Planned Parenthood,” she said.

“If you don’t believe it, and if you’ve never met a Planned Parenthood baby, I’m happy to let you know that I am one and that my mother received and relied on prenatal care from Planned Parenthood when she was pregnant with me,” the Democrat continued.
Planned Parenthood is the leading provider of abortions in the United States, though the group does provide STD testing, prenatal care, men’s and women’s health services, as well as general healthcare. The organization, founded in 1916, has solidified itself as a leading voice in pro-abortion rights activism throughout the country.
During the meeting, Ocasio-Cortez also took a shot at the GOP for “valuing life” while upholding the death penalty and supporting “policies” that disproportionately lead to “deaths of black men.”
“First and foremost, I don’t want to hear a single person on this committee or outside this committee talk about valuing life when they continue to uphold the death penalty, when they continue to support policies that disproportionately lead to the deaths of black men … and uphold an absolutely unjust medical system that exists for profit that allows people to die because they can’t afford to live,” she said.

The anti-abortion group Live Action did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
