White House national security adviser H.R. McMaster declined to address specifically whether the Trump administration is now better off without Steve Bannon working in the West Wing weeks after the former White House chief strategist left his post at the White House.
“The administration is better off when we can serve the president by integrating and coordinating across all of our departments and agencies with our key allies and partners, and present the president with multiple options, and then based on his decisions, to help the president implement these policies that prioritize protecting and advancing the interests of the American people,” McMaster told “Fox News Sunday.”
McMaster reportedly sparred often with Bannon, who left the White House last month and returned to Breitbert News. The former White House chief strategist was removed from the National Security Council when McMaster became national security adviser. McMaster took over the job after Mike Flynn, a retired general, was fired in February.
McMaster attempted to downplay reports of feuds between him and Bannon, and said he believes it’s vital for advisers not to “manipulate into a particular decision or to advance your own agenda.”
The national security adviser also said he believes the National Security Council has succeeded in bringing Trump multiple options on different issues.
