Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said the world’s top markets move based on America’s “forgotten man.”
Speaking on his War Room podcast Friday, Bannon claimed leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and other elite power brokers were fearful of the “deplorables,” a term used dismissively by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to attack supporters of then-candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
“What you should understand, the deplorables, the world’s markets focus on everything you do,” Bannon said. “Don’t think you’ve been forgotten, don’t think you’re the forgotten man, because you’re not the forgotten man. Every time you speak, the world quakes, particularly the guys in Davos.”
The term became a flashpoint in the 2016 election after Clinton said, “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.” Trump and his campaign team embraced the deplorable label, going as far as to share prominent memes that celebrated the designation.
Bannon, who was instrumental in the election of Trump, claimed markets are reacting positively to the prospect of Trump’s reelection.
“In the face of this pandemic where China is in a free fall, they still say the overriding element right now is that the markets believe Trump is going to win reelection.”
