Underscoring the magnitude of FBI Director James Comey’s decision to reopen the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s emails is his congressional testimony just last month in which he said he saw no avenue for reopening the case.
“I’ve not seen anything that would come near to that kind of situation,” Comey testified before the House Judiciary Committee in late September.
Comey’s response came following questions by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., over allegations that Clinton’s cyber security team had attempted to destroy evidence and hide the former secretary of state’s emails from investigators.
“Since you announced that there would be no prosecution of Secretary Clinton in July there have been several very material issues that are troubling. Would that not require a reopening of the investigation to solve those issues?” Sensenbrenner asked Comey on Sept. 28.
Comey at the time acknowledged there were a lot of questions and controversy surrounding the investigation, but remained proud of the work of his agency.
