Prosecutors said during the last six months of Singleton’s life, Davis repeatedly violated a protective order and beat Singleton in September 1998, holding her at gunpoint and raping her in December 1998, threatening to kill her in December 1998 and harassing her in January and February of 1999.,
On March 1, 1999, after dropping their two children off at school, Davis attacked the 32-year-old Singleton immediately inside the front door of her home, prosecutors said.
He stabbed her more than a dozen times in her heart, lungs and heart, police said.
Singleton’s 6-year boy witnessed the attack, prosecutors said, but the child’s testimony wasn’t strong enough to charge Davis.
Twelve years later an eyewitness came forward to say he saw Davis in the front yard at the time of the kiling, prosecutors said.
Police were able to develop a partial DNA match of Davis from blood recovered from the victim’s fingernails, prosecutors said.
