Virginia Senate signs off on Gov’s road bill

The Virginia Senate overwhelmingly passed its version of Gov. Bob McDonnell’s omnibus transportation bill by a vote of 34-6 on Monday.

The passage followed a back-and-forth on the Senate floor between Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, and Sen. William Wampler, R-Bristol, over the plan’s reliance on borrowing money.

The plan would borrow $3 billion for road projects and represent the biggest one-time infusion of cash for Virginia’s depleted transportation system in more than two decades.


The House of Delegates already passed its version of the bill.
