Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., should resign from his post effective after the GOP wraps up tax reform.
“I tell you Sean, I’m to the point, that I think Mitch McConnell, to really bring unity to the Republican Party, and get things done, I think Mitch McConnell ought to tender his resignation,” Bannon told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday.
Bannon said McConnell should announce he is resigning tomorrow, but should remain Senate majority leader during the tax reform effort.
“I think Mitch McConnell, tomorrow, should tender his resignation,” Bannon added.
Bannon declared a “season of war” against “establishment” Republicans such as McConnell, and has committed to supporting Republican primary challengers to many Republican incumbents seeking re-election in 2018.
