OnlyFans announced it “suspended” plans to ban pornographic content from its service by Oct. 1, less than one week after the content-creator subscription platform announced the change to its model over needs to comply with banking partners’ policies.
The decision comes after the Aug. 19 proposed ban of pornography on the platform sparked an outcry from sex workers who have come to rely on the platform for income and living purposes.
The adult-oriented subscription service announced on Wednesday it “secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community,” suggesting it found a way for banks to pay all OnlyFans’s content creators, including those who upload sexually explicit content.
“Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard. We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change,” the company said in a tweet. “OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.”

The subscription platform, based on processing payments to content creators for exclusive content, has struggled to gain outside investments. The decision to restrict the pornographic content that has propelled the platform to notoriety came at the request of banking partners, according to the website’s founder.
“The change in policy, we had no choice — the short answer is banks,” founder and CEO Tim Stokely told the Financial Times on Tuesday.
Banks such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of New York Mellon, and the United Kingdom’s Metro Bank “cite reputational risk and refuse our business,” Stokely said.

OnlyFans has also gained popularity among some celebrities such as rapper Cardi B and Bella Thorne, a celebrity who garnered more than $1 million on the first day she signed up to be a creator on the platform in August last year.
