The University of Central Florida has announced a pilot program to use the school’s taxpayer-funded legal services to include support for the families of undocumented students.
In a Facebook post, the UCF Student Government Association announced their “intent to expand Student Legal Services to cover immigration services. We believe that an inclusive culture on our campus will allow for us to thrive as a community in our pursuit of service to one another.”
The letter, signed by Josh Bolona, the UCF student body president, and Patricia S. Dullaghan, director of student legal services, asks the school’s Prepaid Legal Services program to add an “immediate relative” as a qualified participant in the program.
According to the post, the school is waiting for approval from the Florida Bar Association to “provide this benefit to our students.” If approved, the program is scheduled to be funded by taxpayer and school funds.
