Trump thanks Fiat Chrysler, Ford for investing in US plants

President-elect Trump thanked Fiat Chrysler and Ford for expanding operations in the United States following Fiat Chrysler’s announcement that it would spend $1 billion in Michigan to create 2,000 jobs.

On Sunday, the automotive company announced a $1 billion investment in two plants in Michigan and Ohio. Trump said that announcement, coupled with Ford’s plan to expand operations at a plant in Michigan rather than build a new plant in Mexico, shows good things are happening in the manufacturing sector.

“It’s finally happening – Fiat Chrysler just announced plans to invest $1BILLION in Michigan and Ohio plants, adding 2000 jobs,” Trump tweeted. “This after Ford said last week that it will expand in Michigan and U.S. instead of building a BILLION dollar plant in Mexico. Thank you Ford & Fiat C!”

According to a Reuters report, Fiat Chrysler will build new Jeep vehicles, including pickup trucks, and might move Ram heavy truck production from Mexico to Michigan.

The report stated the company didn’t speak with Trump before making the decisions, but wanted to release news about the decision before the president-elect criticized them.

Last week, Ford announced it would invest $700 million in a plant in Michigan and create hundreds of jobs there instead of building a $1.6 billion new plant in Mexico.
