How big was Big Tex?

The giant fiberglass cowboy that for 60 years greeted visitors to the State Fair of Texas with a “Howdy, folks!” stood 52 feet tall, wore a 75-gallon hat and 50-pound belt buckle. The big guy started life in 1949 as a giant Santa Claus. In 1952, the fair bought him for $750 and turned him into a cowboy. The cowboy passed last week in a massive fire. Authorities don’t know what caused the blaze but vowed to replace Big Tex.
