Chuck Grassley extends deadline for Kavanaugh accuser

Sen. Chuck Grassley announced that there’s a new deadline for Christine Blasey Ford to say if she’ll testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee: 10 p.m. Friday.

He will also schedule a vote for Monday, the committee chairman said in a statement, in case Ford or her attorneys do not respond.

Blasey Ford has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her more than 30 years ago at a party while the two were high schoolers. The accusation has upended the confirmation process for Kavanaugh after coming to light last week.

“It’s Friday night and nothing’s been agreed to despite our extensive efforts to make testimony possible,” Grassley’s statement said.

The panel has invited both Kavanaugh and Ford to testify. While Kavanaugh has already accepted the invitation, Ford’s legal team has been negotiating over conditions for her appearance.

“In the event we can come to a reasonable resolution as I’ve been seeking all week, then I will postpone the committee vote to accommodate her testimony,” the Iowa Republican said in the statement. “We cannot continue to delay.”
