Super PAC offers $1.5 million if Trump debates Cruz, maybe in Canada

On Wednesday, after Donald Trump had made clear he would not attend the final pre-Iowa caucuses GOP debate hosted by Fox News, Sen. Ted Cruz challenged him to a one-on-one debate.

The pro-Cruz super PAC Keep the Promise quickly offered to sweeten the pot for the casino magnate, pledging $1.5 million to the charity of his choice if he’d face the Texas senator. The proposed debate would be one hour long and between Trump and Cruz only, the leading rivals for the Republican nomination. The two are numbers one and two, respectively in the latest Washington Examiner Power Rankings, and Trump would have a say in who would moderate the event (probably not Megyn Kelly).

For Trump to get the payout, the debate would have to take place on or before January 31, so that it could play a role in the Iowa caucuses Monday.

Trump made sport of the offer while not outright rejecting it, writing on his popular Twitter account, “Even though I beat him in the first six debates, especially the last one, Ted Cruz wants to debate me again. Can we do it in Canada?”
