Poll: Clinton leads Trump by 1 point in Ohio

A new poll says Hillary Clinton has a 1-point lead, 44-43, over Donald Trump in a four-way race for Ohio, a state that Trump most likely needs to win if he’s going to win the White House.

The Public Policy Polling survey released Thursday showed Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson at 5 points in the Buckeye State, followed by the Green Party’s Jill Stein at 2 points.

In a head-to-head race, Clinton maintained her 1-point lead over Trump, 48-47.

“Ohio’s emblematic of what we see in much of the country. Voters don’t like Hillary Clinton … but they like Donald Trump even less,” said PPP of its findings. “To put Trump’s unpopularity in the state in perspective, we asked Ohioans whether they have a more favorable opinion of Trump or the University of Michigan — and ‘That School Up North’ beat out Trump.”

Ohio had been inching toward Trump in polling conducted throughout September, but the PPP survey is the second poll conducted exclusively in October that shows Clinton with the lead. A Monmouth University poll from October showed Clinton ahead by 2 percentage points.

The PPP poll surveyed 782 likely Ohio voters by landline telephones and online on Oct. 5 and 6. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
