Driver in crash that hurt soccer star faces hearing

The drunken driver in a Northern Virginia car crash that severely injured soccer star Charlie Davies and killed a female passenger may have violated the terms of her release, which could get her thrown in jail before she is sentenced next month. Maria A. Espinoza was released on her own recognizance after pleading guilty in November. One release condition was that she not consume any alcohol, but prosecutors contend in court papers that she recently drank alcohol.

A hearing about the alleged violation is scheduled for Wednesday.

In the 2009 crash on the George Washington Parkway, Davies, a forward on the U.S. national team, suffered broken bones and a lacerated bladder. Twenty-two-year-old Ashley J. Roberta was killed.
