Majority of Democrats think IRS destroyed e-mails on purpose, poll says

A whopping 63% of Democrats accuse the Internal Revenue Service of deliberately destroying two years of e-mails it says were lost in a computer crash that fried ex-official Lois Lerner’s hard drive, according to a Fox News poll conducted over the weekend.

Only 20% of Democratic respondents believe that the e-mail messages were “accidentally destroyed.”

Seventy-six percent of the total number of individuals surveyed say the IRS purposefully wiped out the e-mails regarding the organizations targeting of conservative non-profit groups.

What’s more, young people appear to be the most concerned about the IRS’ shady actions. Eighty-two percent of respondents under the age of 35 suspect the deliberate destruction of the e-mails, the largest percentage in any of the four age brackets that hold this belief.

Most Americans don’t hold President Obama blameless in this scandal. When asked about the president’s claims that he did not know about scandals like those involving the IRS or the Department of Veterans Affairs before news outlets broke stories exposing them, 60% of those polled say they don’t believe him.

Finally, an overwhelming 74% of Americans want Congress to investigate the IRS’ scrutiny of conservative groups “until someone is held accountable.”

Clearly, the American people want answers, and they don’t expect President Obama or the IRS to deliver them willingly.
