White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday President Trump’s access to a cellphone does not uniquely impair her ability to share with reporters information about his calls.
“The president has access — I mean, he can make calls from a landline too, I’m not really sure what the question is,” Sanders said at the daily press briefing.
The presidential spokeswoman was responding to a question from journalist April Ryan, who asked her to explain, “How does the president receive and give calls from his cellphone?”
“I know it sounds very trite,” Ryan said, “but there has been a lot of controversy about how the president is being handled by Gen. Kelly and how he keeps certain people in and certain people out.”
The question was premised on former adviser Stephen Bannon saying he had spoken with Trump since leaving the White House, something Sanders said she had no information about.
In a follow-up question, Ryan asked if using a personal phone means logs aren’t available.
“I don’t sit in on every single call he makes,” Sanders said. “I’m telling you about what I’m aware of at this point. Certainly, we’ll keep you posted as we do with numerous calls that the president makes throughout the day and the evening.”
