Accused killer George Huguely V hails from a family that helped build the Washington area.
For nearly 100 years, the Huguelys have supplied lumber and construction supplies to area builders, homeowners and government agencies. George W. Huguely Sr. co-founded Galliher & Huguely in Northwest Washington in 1912 and bought out his partner in 1929.
Friends described the Huguelys as prominent in the Chevy Chase community, but private. The family once owned an estate on the South River in Annapolis that since has been developed into the swanky Fishing Creek Farm. The Huguelys also own a home in Manalapan, Fla., a small beachside community in Palm Beach County.
George Huguely IV is a real estate developer and property manager.
The youngest George Huguely was the first to attend the Landon School in Bethesda, and the Huguelys were moderate donors to the all-boys private school. George V and his father were scheduled to play in the 21st Annual Alumni Golf Tournament later this month.
