Drivers in Maryland have some of the worst driving commutes in the nation, a new poll finds.
While New York led the nation with an average ride to work of 31.2 minutes, Maryland was right behind at 30.8 minutes, the AAA listed in its 2007-2008 Mid-Atlantic Transportation Poll.
The Baltimore-Towson metropolitan area listed an average 29-minute commute, while the Bethesda-Gaithersburg-Frederick region reported a 33.1-minute drive to work.
One of the reasons for such a long commute is that 46.2 percent of Marylanders work outside their county of residence.
This number far exceeds the national average of 27.7 percent and is second only to Virginia?s 52.7 percent.
“Maryland?s continued booming economy results in more people driving more automobiles on our roads,” Ragina Averella, manager of public and government affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic, said in a statement.
