Caps coach Bruce Boudreau said that veteran goalie Tomas Vokoun will start against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday in the team’s third preseason game. Vokoun has yet to see action yet so this will be his first test in front of his new teammates.
“He’s played 15 years – does he need four or five games? Does he get ready in two games?,” Boudreau said when asked about his preseason plan for Vokoun, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Washington over the summer. “What’s his workload in preseason been that he feels comfortable with? Whatever his comfortability is, is what we work around. Michal [Neuvirth] in the past has gone three games.”
Based on Thursday’s practice we have a good idea of who will be on the trip. The lines looked like this:
Alex Ovechkin–Marcus Johansson–Joel Ward
Bruce Laich–Cody Eakin–Jason Chimera
Matt Ford-Keith Aucoin-Ryan Potulny
D.J. King-Christian Hanson-Matt Hendricks
And the defensive pairings:
Karl Alzner-John Carlson
Jeff Schultz-Mike Green
Danny Richmond-Sean Collins
