Jimmy Carter no longer needs treatments for cancer.
The former president, now 91, made the announcement at his Sunday school class in Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Ga., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Carter revealed that his doctors at the Emory Winship Cancer Institute told him of the positive development after an MRI last week.
“President Carter said today he did not need any more treatments, which he had August 2015 through February 2016, but will continue scans and resume treatment if necessary,” Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
In August, the 39th president announced that he was diagnosed with cancer after receiving liver surgery. Carter then underwent radiation treatment and drug treatments for melanoma previously found in his liver which had spread to his brain.
By December, Carter said that his cancer was gone.
