Two cousins have been charged with a recent bank robbery in Prince William County after one of them used ink-dyed cash to buy a 1996 Mercury Marquis with his mother just hours later, according to court records.
Dennis Earl Ledbetter, 25, of Fairfax, and his cousin John Wayne Morton, 26, of Suitland, robbed Commerce Bank at 16714 Jefferson Davis Highway at gunpoint at 10 a.m. on Oct. 23, authorities said. The two men made off with $8,755.
Four days later, a used car dealership worker tried to deposit $500 of ink-stained cash at a Montgomery County bank.
When questioned about the cash, he told authorities the money came from Morton, who bought the silver sedan for $3,600 with his mother, Felicia Morton, at 4 p.m. the same day the bank was robbed.
Morton reportedly turned in Ledbetter, telling authorities it was Ledbetter who supplied the gun and devised the scheme, the affidavit said. – Freeman Klopott
Ain’t nothing like the real thing
A pair of 20-year-old Connecticut men have been arrested for acting like fake cops after they allegedly tried to pull over a real cop.
Israel Gomez and Esteban Cardona were charged with impersonating a police officer, reckless driving and improper use of a red flashing lights.
The pair were driving in separate cars when Gomez opened up some flashing red lights to pull over Ronald Bair.
Sadly for the friends, their victim was a police lieutenant who would be expected to know the real deal.
Bair radioed for backup, and Gomez and Cardona were given their own tour of the police precinct. – National Register
