Fairfax County man charged with threatening CIA

A Fairfax County man was charged with threatening to bomb the Central Intelligence Agency compound in Langley last month.

Antoine Lowery reportedly drove a pickup truck rigged with a snowplow into a security barrier and claimed to have an explosive device at about 2 p.m. Feb. 22, according to a federal police officer’s affidavit.

Lowery said the truck was about to explode and counted down from five to zero several times, according to Officer Robert Ellis’ affidavit. No one was injured, and a sweep of the area found there was no bomb inthe vehicle. – Dan Genz

D.C. man sentenced for credit card fraud

A 46-year-old D.C. man was sentenced in federal court to 15 months in prison for credit card fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Lester Simpson, of the 3900 block of 12th Street Northeast, admitted that he used a stolen credit card to buy more than $40,000 in merchandise from hardware and department stores in D.C. and Maryland. Although the front of the credit cards bore his or his associate’s name, the magnetic strips contained credit account information unlawfully obtained from other individuals, court documents said. The credit card information was stolen using a skimming device that captured the victims’ account information, usually while they bought gasoline.

Federal agents who raided Simpson’s D.C. home also found more than 174 unused stolen credit card and debit account numbers. – Scott McCabe

Off-duty officer shoots man

An off-duty Prince George’s County police officer, moonlighting as a security guard, shot and wounded one of two suspicious men he stopped to interview around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in Oxon Hill Village apartments on Alive and Virginia avenues, Prince George’s County police said.

During the stop, the men and the officer began to fight when he pulled his service revolver and fired. The officer has not been named, but he is a three-year veteran and has been placed on administrative leave. – Freeman Klopott
