Reid: At least Cruz ‘stands for something’

Harry Reid implied Thursday that he would prefer Ted Cruz over Donald Trump, because it’s impossible to say what Trump stands for.

“I have to say this about Cruz: He at least has some principles,” Reid told the Center for American Progress in an address. “I don’t like what he stands for, but he stands for something.”

Reid contrasted Cruz with his GOP rival Trump, whom he blasted as empty.

“I’m not as turned off by Cruz because he stands for things. Trump stands for nothing,” Reid said.

Reid blamed the rise of Trump on Republicans, whom he said have enabled his rise.

“When Trump calls immigrants rapists and murderers, he’s just doing what he’s learned from generations of conservatives,” Reid said. “The Republican Party has become the party of Trump.”

“The Republican establishment acts bewildered, but they shouldn’t. As much as they may try to distance themselves from Trump now, Republican leaders are responsible for his rise,” Reid said.
