Two infected by measles in MontCo

Two children in Montgomery County have been diagnosed with the measles. County health officials are urging anyone who may have come into contact with them and who has not either had the disease or the vaccine to seek medical attention.

The infected children arrived in the country on Aug. 24. They had never received the vaccine against the disease.

On Aug. 29 — possibly after becoming infected with the measles — the children visited the Suburban Washington Resettlement Center, located at 8700 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, and the measles could have been spread to anyone else there at the time.

Symptoms include runny nose, watery eyes, a cough and a fever higher than 101 degrees, followed by a rash that starts on the face before spreading.

In addition to seeking medical attention, officials want anyone who may have been exposed to the virus to call the county’s Health and Human Services’ Disease Control office at 240-777-1755.
