Caitlyn Jenner: Trump broke his promise to fight for LGBT people

Transgender activist and reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner charged Wednesday that President Trump broke his pledge to fight for LGBT people after he announced a ban on transgender individuals serving in any capacity in the U.S. military.

“There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us,” Jenner wrote on Twitter. “What happened to your promise to fight for them?”

Jenner highlighted a Trump tweet from June 2016 in which he vowed to fight for LGBT individuals “while Hillary brings in more people that will threaten your freedoms and beliefs.”

Trump’s policy shift, revealed on his preferred social media platform, shocked lawmakers and Pentagon officials.

Despite voting for Trump, Jenner has been critical of his policies toward transgender people.

Jenner warned Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions of possible court action in February, in a video that responded to the Trump administration’s decision to repeal guidelines on public school bathrooms for transgender students.

“I have a message for the bullies: You’re sick,” Jenner said. “And because you’re weak you pick on kids, you pick on women or anyone else you think is vulnerable. Apparently even becoming the attorney general isn’t enough to cure some people of their insecurities.”
