John Kasich tweets about state’s low abortion figures

John Kasich may have mentioned that “there’s many other issues that are really critical” besides abortion, but he’s still willing to address it on Twitter.

A tweet from Kasich earlier in the week hailed it as “Big news” that his state of Ohio saw their lowest figures on abortion in 38 years. The tweet also links to Cleveland.com’s article which goes into detail about the state’s abortion figures. The article also includes the report from the Ohio Department of Health.

The tone of Kasich’s tweet also seems to suggest that he is congratulating himself or taking credit for the figures. As governor, Kasich has been thanked by Ohio Right to Life before, recently for signing a pro-life budget.

Ohio Right to Life (ORTL) is a state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC). The quote included in Kasich’s tweet is from their statement on the abortion figures.

“While our work is not yet complete, it is comforting to know that our pro-life initiatives are working in Ohio,” expresses the overall tone of the group’s statement.

Cleveland.com also spoke with Katherine Franklin, the ORTL communications director. “We’ve seen 16 new pro life laws signed in the last four years and half of the state’s abortion clinics have closed, so we think that there’s a lot to be said for pro life policies,” she mentioned.
