Jeb Bush announces exploratory committee for 2016 presidential campaign

Jeb Bush is “actively exploring” a possible 2016 presidential campaign.

The former Florida governor announced on Facebook on Tuesday morning that he has decided to “actively explore the possibility of running for President of the United States.”

In January, Bush said he plans on establishing a Leadership PAC “that will help me facilitate conversations with citizens across America to discuss the most critical challenges facing our exceptional nation.”

Though he did not reveal his timeline for making an official decision, he noted he will “visit with many” Americans in the coming months — setting up a possible announcement for mid-2015.

Last month, former President George W. Bush — Jeb’s younger brother — expressed his support for him to run.

“I think in his soul, he knows he can do the job. No matter who says he should run, he knows he’s going to make up his mind based upon what he thinks is right for his family,” he said of his brother, who served as Florida’s 43rd governor from 1999 to 2007.

Bush is currently first in a RealClearPolitics average of polls, four percentage points ahead of his closest competitor, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. The potential Republican field is currently 11 candidates deep.
