The Tim Kaine watch just got a little bit more interesting – the former governor of Virginia is expected to talk with President Barack Obama before making a decision on whether to make a run for Senate in 2012, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
Once Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., announced last week that he would not run for a second term, all eyes quickly jumped to Kaine – the chairman of the Democratic National Committee and one of Obama’s earliest supporters – as a potential heir apparent for the seat.
Old Dominion Democrats ranging from Sen. Mark Warner to Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Brian Moran to state Senate Majority Leader Richard Saslaw are all hoping Kaine will step up and run.
Kaine thus far has been noncommittal about prospects for 2012 — but a push from the president, who tapped him to head the DNC, certainly could do wonders in helping him decide.
