The FBI and local police are searching for the serial bank robber who they say struck Arlington banks four times in the past two months, including hitting a BB&T on Lee Highway twice. The man entered the BB&T at 5515 Lee Highway at about 2 p.m. on Thursday. He said he was robbing the bank before getting away with the cash. The day before, the same man hit a Wachovia near the Clarendon Metro and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. During both robberies, he fled on foot.

The man is linked to two other hold-ups earlier this summer. Police believe he is behind the robbery of two Arlington BB&T banks: the branch at 3001 Washington Blvd. on June 6, and on June 16 the Lee Highway branch that he hit again last week.

During each of the heists, the man has implied he has a weapon, but has not displayed a handgun, according to police reports. No one has been injured during the spree.

The robber wore a red wig to conceal his identity during the first heist, but has opted for a hat for the past three robberies. At the time of the most recent robbery, the man wore a lime green shirt, white cap and classes. The robber is described as a 6-feet tall, in his late 50s, weighing about 180 pounds.

Anyone with information on the robberies should call the Arlington Police Department’s tip line at 703-228-4242 or Detective Donald Fortunato at 703-228-4197. Email Fortunato at [email protected].
