TSA: Body scanner video a ‘crude attempt’

The TSA is adressing a recent viral video that purportedly shows airline passengers how to circumvent invasive TSA body scanner procedures.

A TSA spokesman would not confirm or deny whether the trick is successful, calling it a “crude attempt” to beat the system. Due to security reasons, they added, “we can’t discuss our technology’s detection capability in detail.”

“It is one layer of our 20 layers of security (Behavior Detection, Explosives Detection Canines, Federal Air Marshals, , etc.) and is not a machine that has all the tools we need in one handy device. We’ve never claimed it’s the end all be all.” writes the TSA’s Ben Burns.

The video was published by blogger and engineer, Jonathan Corbett. Since the video became popular, it has been age-restricted on YouTube.
