Louise Linton apologizes for ‘inappropriate,’ ‘insensitive’ comments on Instagram

Louise Linton, wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, apologized Tuesday for lashing out at a woman on social media and insinuating she had sacrificed more for the U.S. because she was rich.

“I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response,” Linton told CNN through a publicist. “It was inappropriate and highly insensitive.”

Earlier, Linton hit out at Instagram user “jennimiller29” Monday after Miller commented on a photo Linton had shared of herself and her husband exiting a government airplane during a trip to Kentucky to discuss tax reform with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and visit Fort Knox. She had also tagged the designers whose clothes she was wearing.

“Glad we could pay for your little getaway. #deplorable,” Miller wrote underneath the image.

“Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours. You’re adorably out of touch,” Linton responded.

This is not the first time Linton, a Scottish actress who married Mnuchin in a lavish ceremony in June, has drawn fire from the Internet.

Previously, she had to withdraw a self-published book called In “Congo’s Shadow” after she was slammed for inaccuracies and promoting a false “white savior” narrative.
