New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has been hot and cold on the federal response to his state’s worst-in-the-country crisis with the coronavirus, gave a tip of his hat Wednesday to both President Trump and top White House aide Jared Kushner.
On Trump, after pushing the president to use authority under the Defense Production Act to do more to get key medical products to states, Cuomo said the president was using it well.
Very different tone from Cuomo today. He says Trump and his team are using the Defense Production Act “well” as a leverage tool to ramp up medical supply production.

“Very different tone from Cuomo today. He says Trump and his team are using the Defense Production Act ‘well’ as a leverage tool to ramp up medical supply production,” tweeted Nick Reisman, a political reporter for Spectrum News who highlighted the change in tone in several tweets today.
In covering the governor’s virus press conference, he also noted Cuomo’s praise for Kushner, who has helped with getting companies to join the battle.
“Cuomo says he’s been speaking with President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. He says Kushner has been helpful to New York,” tweeted Reisman.
On Tuesday, Secrets noted how Trump and Cuomo have bonded during the coronavirus crisis and how that has helped push aid to the state.
While the two still tussle over some issues, associates said that the two native New Yorkers have decided to set aside their political differences to curb the infection and death rate.
Bill White, who gives private advice to both, said that Trump “is the best guy in your corner when you are respectful to him. You don’t have to kiss his ass. Just be a respectful human being with him, and you will have a great relationship with him. He can work with anyone on anything, even though he might not agree with you on most of the stuff that comes out of your mouth.”
