Former President Donald Trump suggested that the Supreme Court “go to the reporter” who penned the article about a draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade if it’s serious about finding the source of the leak.
The initial Politico report published May 2 was co-authored by reporters Josh Gerstein and Alexander Ward, serving as unprecedented insight into the Supreme Court’s forthcoming decision in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“The U.S. Supreme Court MUST find, reveal, and punish the ‘Leaker.’ Very easy to do — Go to the reporter who received the leak,” Trump posted to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Wednesday.

Following the leak, protesters descended on the Supreme Court building and subsequently prompted police to erect tall security fences just one day after the article was published.
Additionally, Republican lawmakers and conservative media figures were outraged by the leak and demanded the person responsible for it be held accountable for their actions by law enforcement.
“This is a tremendously serious matter that has never happened, to anywhere near this extent, before. The Court will be compromised and demeaned until this very big problem is solved!” Trump added in his post Wednesday.
While the case in question surrounds a legal challenge to Mississippi’s law banning abortions after 15 weeks of gestation, the draft ruling signaled the curtailing of abortion access by allowing states to impose laws that severely limit or ban abortion procedures, should the draft opinion remain the same as the final ruling.
In response to the leak, the Justice Department ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to provide “around-the-clock security” for Supreme Court justices’ homes after a Department of Homeland Security memo dated May 13 warned of an “increase” in political violence surrounding the imminent release of the Dobbs opinion.
The marshal of the Supreme Court was also tasked by Chief Justice John Roberts in May to investigate the origins of the draft leak, which have culminated with efforts requiring the court’s clerks to sign legal affidavits and request their cellphones in an attempt to uncover one or more individuals responsible for the leak.
Roberts previously decried the leak as a “betrayal,” adding that it was an “egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.”

The high court will again release opinions Thursday and Friday at 10 a.m. EST, offering two more opportunities for a decision on Dobbs, though there are no clear indicators as to which cases the justices will hand down.
A spokesperson for Politico declined to comment.
