Cockeysville teen waives arraignment on murder charges

An arraignment for the Cockeysville teenager charged with murdering his family was waived Monday morning.

Nicholas Browning, 16, is charged with the murders of his father John Browning, 45, mother, Tamara, 44, and brothers Gregory, 14, and Benjamin, 11, who were found dead in their Cockeysville home around 5 p.m. Feb. 2.

Police said the honor student at Dulaney High School who was close to becoming an Eagle Scout executed his family ? one by one ? then dumped his father?s gun in nearby bushes and later confessed to the crime.

He faces up to life in prison. No trial date has been set. It is common practice in Baltimore County Circuit Court for judges to cancel arraignments for suspects who have already retained attorneys. Browning has hired Baltimore-based lawyer Joshua Treem to represent him.
