Is Hillary Clinton a fan of hard choices or just expensive ones? It’s a valid question, given a recent story from the Daily Mail that shows that U.S. taxpayers forked out more than $55,000 to cover travel expenses for Clinton’s book tour in July alone.
The federal government paid thousands for Clinton to travel Europe in luxury as she conducted interviews and promoted “Hard Choices.”
This included a $3,668, one-night stay at the Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris for a suite which Four Seasons describes as including a “large and superbly appointed marble bathroom” with a “deep soaking tub” and “elegant period furniture.”
In addition to Clinton’s lodging, the government spent more than $35,000 to house Clinton’s protection detail, the Daily Mail reports. While former cabinet secretaries are not generally afforded lifetime Secret Service protection, as a former first lady, Clinton enjoys Secret Service protection for life. Rental cars for the Secret Service agents in Paris cost an additional $11,291.
In Germany, taxpayers paid $5,100 to rent three Mercedes-Benz limousines for one day in Berlin. The Daily Mail was not able to find information about Clinton’s lodging costs in Germany.
One critic of the Clintons has already characterized the tour as a “double whammy” for taxpayers.
“Hillary’s book tour through Europe was a fiscal double-whammy,” America Rising PAC Director Tim Miller told the Daily Mail, “lining her pockets with outrageous speaking fees and billing the taxpayers for thousands in travel.”
This might not be a Marie Antoinette moment, but Clinton is certainly having her cake and eating it too.
