Army major pleads guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor

A U.S. Army major accused of filming himself raping an infant at his Arlington home and distributing it on the Internet pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a minor Thursday, prosecutors said. Daniel A. Woolverton, 34, faces up to 30 years in prison when he’s sentenced April 9. Woolverton was arrested after he shared child porn on the Internet and an FBI agent tracked him down.

42 protesters arrested on Capitol steps

U.S. Capitol Police arrested 42 people protesting what they called President Obama’s broken promise to close Guantanamo Bay prison. The protesters were members of Witness Against Torture. Police said 28 were charged with unlawful assembly and 14 with disorderly conduct. They were arrested as they waved banners on the Capitol’s steps.

State Dept. worker gets probation for passport peeking

Susan Holloman, 58, was sentenced to one-year probation for illegally looking at passport application of more than 70 celebrities and elected officials. Holloman was part of a group of former State Department workers and contract employees who illegally accessed passports in 2007. Among the passports they looked at were then Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

D.C. police union chairman wins re-election

District police officers re-elected Kris Baumann to another two-year term as the chairman of the D.C. police union. Baumann, 42, has often butted heads with police Chief Cathy Lanier and other department officials.
