Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said she would build a “fridge to the next century” to combat climate change.
During the sixth Democratic primary debate on Thursday night, Klobuchar was asked if it was too late to act on climate change, given that becoming carbon neutral by 2050 would not stop the planet from reaching dangerous temperatures.
Klobuchar claimed she would reenter the Paris climate accord and start directing policy to protect people “seven generations” ahead rather than “seven seconds.” She would add a carbon tax, implement gas mileage standards, and clean power rules.
She closed out her answer with a confusing claim that she would build a “fridge to the next century.”
“I’d introduce sweeping legislation to put a price on carbon and build a fridge to the next century, which means we must upgrade our building standards,” Klobuchar said.
She clearly meant to say she was building a “bridge to the future,” a phrase made famous by former President Bill Clinton.
Klobuchar, 59, has been polling just outside of the top tier of candidates. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows her with 3.3% nationwide.
