Man turns himself in after shootingA man accused of using a high-powered rifle to try to shoot his girlfriend in Bethesda on Tuesday turned himself in to police.

Joshua Prince, 32, allegedly fired at least one shot at his girlfriend at about 7:15 a.m. on the ramp of a parking garage at an apartment complex on the 6400 block of Rock Forest Drive, Montgomery County police said.

He turned himself in to the Pennsylvania State Police in Montoursville, Pa., later in the day.

Two Bethesda schools — Walter Johnson High School and Tilden Middle School — were locked down for several hours due to their proximity to the scene.

1 arrested, 2 sought in sex assault

Police have arrested one man and are searching for two others in the sexual assault of a 20-year-old Woodbridge woman.

The three men allegedly drove the woman from a restaurant to a plaza, where they stopped her from leaving, sexually assaulted her, hit her with a wooden board and stole her purse, Prince William County police said. One man brandished a handgun and the other two sexually assaulted her again before the three fled, police said.

Eric A. Barahona-Rivas, 19, has been charged with forcible sodomy, robbery and abduction.

Traffic deaths, DUIs down over holiday weekend

Virginia State Police say deaths and drunken-driving incidents dropped over the Labor Day weekend.

Eight people died in crashes across the state from Friday through Monday this year, police said. Last year, 14 people died over the holiday weekend.

Police arrested 132 people for drunk driving this year, down from 164 in 2009.

State police responded to a total of 378 crashes over the weekend, a drop from 519 last year.
