Biden, Cooper$mith rake in the buck$

If you want to raise some Democratic coin in Washington, you’re wise to stop by the Kalorama house of the former U.S. representative to the United Nations, Esther Coopersmith, who has proven adept at using her extensive Rolodex to support various causes.

On Tuesday night, that cause was Sen. Joseph Biden and the Obama campaign generally. Biden stopped by Coopersmith’s place for a barbecue fundraiser, but it wasn’t the first time Coopersmith has helped him out: “I did his first fundraiser 35 years ago,” Coopersmith told Yeas & Nays. “And he reminded me of that in front of all of those people!” Other notables in the crowd included Sens. Claire McCaskill and Jon Tester, and Rear Admiral Susan J. Blumenthal.

Both Coopersmith and the Obama campaign are keeping mum about how much cash was raised Tuesday, but one Yeas & Nays spy put the number at close to $2 million.

Across town was presidential wannabe Sen. Hillary Clinton at Capitol Hill’s Hyatt Regency Hotel, toasting labor movement leader Barbara Easterling at her retirement dinner.
