Stay away: Just 46% of Democrats want to see Obama help local politicians

Democrats are joining in with the rest of those who are giving up on President Obama, with just 43 percent calling his presidency a success and a near majority believing that a visit by the damaged president would not help local politicians, according to a new poll.

Rasmussen Reports just released a survey that portrays the Democrats as depressed about their president. Consider some of the results:

— Overall, just 22 percent of likely U.S. voters call Obama’s presidency a success. Among Democrats, only 43 percent “believe the Obama presidency has been successful, although just 12 percent think it’s been a failure.”

— Overall, 27 percent said it would help politicians if the president campaigned for them, while 39 percent said it wouldn’t. Among Democrats, just 46 percent said an Obama visit would help and 21 percent said it would hurt.

Driving the poor support for Obama is a dissatisfaction found by Rasmussen in the president’s agenda.

The pollster said that “42 percent of voters nationwide say they are less likely to vote for a member of Congress who has supported the president’s agenda.” Just 28 percent would support “a pro-Obama incumbent.”

But before the GOP starts singing Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” Rasmussen noted that “most Republican voters think their representatives in Congress have lost touch with the party’s base over the last several years.”
