Temperatures have been so high in D.C. that airport runways are melting.
A U.S. airways jetliner sunk into a softened portion of the tarmac at Reagan National airport on Friday, requiring the passengers on board to get off so a tow vehicle could dislodge the sunken wheel.
Authorities say the softened asphalt was a result of record-high temperatures in the region.
The Charleston, S.C.-bound plane eventually took off after a three-hour delay.
