Fox News host Sean Hannity criticized Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp over his plans to have certain nonessential businesses reopen later this week.
Kemp announced earlier this week that some retailers, nail salons, massage therapists, bowling alleys, and gyms will open on Friday, marking the country’s most aggressive reopening plan to date, which also attracted significant backlash.
Hannity, during an interview with Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, criticized the order because he thought it could end up hurting the Republican Party.
“If this guy in Georgia, Kemp, he’s a Republican, I don’t care — he does this wrong, they are going to bludgeon him and not want to open anything,” Hannity warned. “We don’t need the tattoo parlors open yet, that’s a dumb idea, and some other of his ideas are pretty dumb. They are going to bludgeon him to stop all openings in this economy can’t survive until we open safely. There’s a way to open safely just like the guys stocking the shelves.”
Graham then backed President Trump and the top health officials working with the administration, who have been against Kemp’s orders.
“I trust President Trump’s team’s judgment on how to do it more than any governor in the country,” the senator explained.
Trump announced Wednesday he is not supportive of Kemp’s strategy.
“I told the governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp, that I disagree strongly with his decision to open certain facilities, which are in violation of the phase one guidelines … It’s just too soon,” Trump said at that day’s daily press briefing.
