Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has pulled out of a $25,000-a-plate New York fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, with his campaign citing his attendance at a funeral for an officer killed in the line of duty.
DeSantis opted to attend a funeral for Special Agent Jose Perez, who succumbed to his injuries 18 days after a car crash on Aug. 2.

Initially, the governor was going to headline a fundraiser Sunday night for Zeldin, which was reportedly expected to bring in over $1 million. However, he was unable to attend, as he needed to go to a Monday memorial service in Miami for Perez.
Political commentator Dan Bongino reportedly filled in for DeSantis in his absence.
Zeldin’s campaign expects DeSantis to return to New York later, however, for a future event, according to a report.
