The American Mustache Institute is whisking itself away to a new city. The group, known for advocating for the rights of Mustached Americans, will leave St. Louis, “from the shadow of the world’s largest mustache,” and head to Pittsburgh.
The move also marks a change in leadership with longtime CEO Aaron Perlut handing over his reins to incoming CEO Adam Causgrove, who was named the AMI’s Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year in 2012.
“It is with great humility, honor and overwhelming attractiveness that I accept the helm of what is broadly considered the bravest organization in the history of mankind behind only the U.S. Military and the post-Jim Henson Muppets,” Causgrove said Friday in a release.
While they’ve never been based in Washington, the American Mustache Institute has always had a whisker dipped in politics, from chiding David Axelrod for shaving off his stache, to lobbying President Obama to grow one. In addition, the Institute is behind the Stache Act, legislation that would give Mustached Americans a $250 tax credit to go toward facial hair grooming.
