Pete Buttigieg: I would vote to impeach Trump

Presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg said he would vote to impeach President Trump.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked Buttigieg during a town hall event Monday what he would do if he were a member of the House.

“If you were voting in Congress right now on impeachment, would you vote to impeach?” Matthews asked.

“Yeah, I would,” Buttigieg said.

“OK, good,” Matthews said in response.

Buttigieg also said he believed the president “deserves” to be impeached, although he said he would “think twice before I offered strategic advice” to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The California Democrat has so far resisted calls from rank-and-file members calling for impeachment proceedings.

Buttigieg said last month it was “up to the House” to decide when and how impeachment proceedings could begin.

Matthews said he was trying to “nail” him down and provide a clear answer on how the South Bend, Ind., mayor would cast his ballot if he were in the House.
