First Lady acts shocked at Obamacare repeal effort

First Lady Michelle Obama acted shocked at the Republican effort to repeal Obamacare, rallying fundraiser attendees to fight repeal while advocating President Obama’s vision of the “fundamental promise” of the United States.

“And we have to spend a minute talking about health care, because last year we made history together by finally passing health reform,” Mrs. Obama said during a Charlottesville, Va., fundraiser yesterday. “But now there are some folks actually talking about repealing this reform.”

“So today, we must ask ourselves, are we going to stand by and let that happen?  I mean, really?” she continued.  “Are we going to let insurance companies refuse to cover things like cancer screening, prenatal care, that don’t just save money, but they save lives?  Or are we going to stand up for our lives and for the lives of the people that we love?”

The Kaiser Family Foundation reported in October 2011 that 51 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Obamacare, while just 34 percent approve of the law. 47 percent of Americans want Obamacare repealed, according to a Gallup poll from November 2011, while just 42 percent of Americans want Obamacare to remain in place.
