When the Redskins traded for Donovan McNabb, it struck me how ecstatic players were; I anticipated more sympathy toward Jason Campbell. But usually the sympathy came after I asked them directly about him.
DeAngelo Hall today sort of explained why, without being asked specifically about Campbell. Rather, he was asked a question about what the team needs to accomplish in training camp. He wound his way to McNabb and how much confidence they now have that they can win any game.

Anyway, it led to this comment:
“That’s no knock to Jason; I love him to death. You never knew which one you would get. Sometimes [he’d] look great and you’re like, well hell this kid can play; he’ll eventually be a player. Then sometimes you were like, Damn; I know we didn’t get the best protection but you could have gotten that out of there.”
When asked if Campbell had the pieces around him to compete, Hall said: “He definitely didn’t have the best pieces around him. Donovan ain’t got the best pieces around him either. We drafted an offensive taackle, but the team is relatively the same. We have more running backs. But, yeah, I mean I don’t think nobody who watched any game last season felt like we had the best team or the best producte on the field. It’s a process. We have guys healthy now. During the season we might be sayign the same thing in Week 10, ‘Donovan ain’t got the right weapons.’ We’re a little healthy now so it’s easy to say we’re better than last year. But, yeah, Jason didn’t have a lot of help at all. You guys saw it. He’d drop back three steps and get sacked. Anytime that happens that’s tough.”
